Membership to the Mt Gravatt Lapidary Society

​How to become a member
​New member signup, orientations and inductions occur every Tuesday evening (except public holidays) between 7.00pm and 8.00pm.

Anyone interested in learning more about the Society, membership, our facilities or sessions are welcome to come to the clubhouse on Tuesday evenings between 7:00pm and 8:00pm to talk to one of our induction volunteers and have a tour of the facility.  Please note, that while COVID restrictions are in place, numbers are limited at our club, so please contact us to book in. 

We would love to talk to you about our club and show you around in person, however, please note that YOU MUST BE FULLY VACCINATED FOR COVID-19 TO ATTEND OUR CLUB.  If you are not vaccinated, please email or phone us and we would be more than happy to answer your questions as best we can.

​​Membership Year & Inclusions
​The Membership year for the club is from the 1st April to the 31st March. All membership renewals are due as at the 31st March each year. New members joining between the 1st Jan & 31st March will enjoy membership till the end of the following membership year.

All new members are required to complete the Introductory Cabbing Course.  The Introductory Cabochon Cutting Course (including tuition, course material and the rough to cut 3 cabochons) is included in the Joining Membership Fees.

Successful completion of the Introductory Cabochon Cutting Course is required to attend general Cabbing sessions or commence any other MGLS course, including introductory silversmithing and faceting courses.



Session and Course Fees

​Session Fees
A small session fee is payable for each work session a member attends.

For work sessions up to 4 hours in length: the fee is $10 per Adult member & $5 per Junior member, for each session a member attends (regardless of how long a member attends the session).

Work sessions over 4 hours in length will attract an additional fee.  Where a member attends two sessions in a day, a session fee is payable for each session, regardless of how long the member attends each session.

Additional charges apply for the use of saws and other specialty equipment.

​Courses
The Introductory Cabochon Cutting Course is included in the Joining Membership Fee.

Members are required to complete the applicable MGLS introductory course for each other modality, including silver and faceting, prior to attending sessions or using equipment applicable to the modality.  Each of these courses attract an additional cost,  Course fees and charges are subject to change depending on material costs and course structure.

Specialty silver, faceting, cabochon, freeform and other courses are run periodically and also attract additional costs.

On occasion Mt Gravatt Lapidary Society bring in external instructors for one off courses designed to expand the knowledge of the members, When these courses are organised, a fee structure will be advertised.
